Thaylene Rogers, Chair

Assistant Dean/Controller, College of Fine Arts and Communications

Thaylene Rogers received her BS degree in Accounting from BYU in 1981. She then began her career in public accounting within the tax practice of Arthur Andersen & Co in Portland, Oregon, and later in San Francisco, California. While with Arthur Anderson Thaylene received her California CPA license. After some additional years in both public accounting and industry, Thaylene embraced a career disruption for some busy child raising and community service years. Her BYU career began in the College of Fine Arts and Communications in 2006 where she spent nine years between Arts Production and the Business Office for Art, Design, and Theater and Media Arts. During that time Thaylene also earned an executive MBA and a Utah CPA certification. She then spent four years as Controller for BYU Technology Transfer and is currently the Assistant Dean/Controller for the College of Fine Arts and Communications.

David Paul, Member

University Treasurer

David presently serves as the University Treasurer for Brigham Young University. Prior to joining BYU, David had over 30 years of experience in the automotive financial services industry, most recently as Senior VP Financial Services for American Honda Finance Corporation in Torrance, California, where he was responsible for the U.S. operations and sales financing business of Honda Financial Services and Acura Financial Services.

David began his career at Chrysler Corporation / Chrysler Financial Services in Detroit, Michigan, in the Management Development Program of the Corporate Finance Group. He was then co-founder of BMW Financial Services, serving as Vice President over Marketing, Sales and Operations in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. Later, David was the founder and served as Chairman, President and CEO of BMW Bank of North America located in Salt Lake City, Utah. He also led business development activities at Toyota Financial Services in Torrance, California, and for DaimlerChrysler Financial Services in Salt Lake City, Utah.

David graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and later received his MBA with emphasis on Finance and Investments from the Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Marci Harding Paul, and their five children and two grandchildren at their family home in Midway, Utah.

John Leatherwood, Member

Director, Financial Accounting & Reporting

John received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Accounting from BYU in 2004. He began his career at Phelps Dodge Mining Company as an accountant at their research facility. John later worked at Eastern Arizona College as the Assistant Controller where he supervised Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and performed other general accounting functions. He received his Arizona CPA license in 2007.

John took a position with Treasury Services at BYU as the Cashiering System Administrator in 2008. Throughout his 11 years in Treasury Services he served as the Purchasing Card Administrator, Cougar Cash Administrator, Investment Committee Secretary, and Assistant Treasurer. In 2019, John moved to his current position as the Director of Financial Accounting and Reporting where he supervises the Accounts Payable, Payroll, and General Accounting departments.

John resides in Spanish Fork where he enjoys spending time with his wife, Angie, and their 6 boys.
How to Contact / Interact with your CDC

The council has set blocks of time to meet with members of the Accounting & Finance CDC. They are the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month from 1-3pm.

Please note: Before meeting with the CDC, it would be helpful to come prepared with your completed “S-curve” chart and having taken time to reflect upon your own career desires and aspirations. Strong consideration should be given to personal aptitudes, skills and interests. Please know that the CDC will be a good resource to share your thoughts and feelings with and to receive feedback, guidance and direction, but that the majority of the initiative and effort will need to come from the Community member.
